A Sad Sight

It was back in July that the Kings Head in Colliers Wood closed down – just days after change of use planning permission was given.

It’s now boarded up and wire fences surround the place, but a skip that was located there just after the pub closed is still there, as is the old fridge presumably thrown out as Young’s were busy stripping out anything they could reuse in trendy winebars (not much then).

Given how quick Young’s were to get rid of the place, you’d think that the new owners – bus company Go-Ahead group – would be rushing about to get their new company offices up and running – that they’d have some plans ready and waiting. Which is why it feels strange that three months on, the building is still exactly how it was just a few weeks after it closed.

Of course the dream is that someone is trying to buy it back and run it as a great pub. The reality is of course that Go-Ahead are probably just finalising their plans and about to go to Merton Council to get planning permission to gut the place. Still, it’s good to know that the pub was closed down in a rush for a very good reason.
