There’s been a lot said about how much more accurate the new weather forecasts are. How much easier they are. How much clearer they are. How much better it is than having one big symbol covering a large area.
Last weekend I looked at the forecast on BBCi where symbols are still in use. For the time period of noon to 3pm, Saturday 21 May 2005, the symbol above was displayed for London. It means that there will be a heavy rain shower – in other words, that there will be clouds, lots of rain and sun.
And you know what? Funnily enough, there was lots of clouds, lots of rain and indeed, we got the sun too.
All that information, from one little symbol, instantly gleaned from one glance…
