Going North… Decades Later…

Here’s a depressing thought. Well it depresses me anyway.
Whilst doing some routine checking of blog content over a desk lunch, I came across the first ever post about the BBC moving my job to Manchester. It’s dated December 2004.
Okay, back in 2004 I didn’t actually know for sure that my job would be moving north – that didn’t come until last year – three years after the initial announcement…
The move of course, won’t happen until 2011. Seven years after it first was officially announced…
In contrast, one manager recalled a meeting when they were at Disney, where the staff were herded together and told “Right. Your job’s moving to Budapest in a month. Coming then?” and said that the BBC’s timescales were a lot nicer. This is true. But you look at the numbers now, mid-way through, and it’s easy to think that there’s such a thing as too much notice…
