Tube Trekking

Many years ago, there was a pub. And there was a slightly drunken conversation. Beer had been flowing and everything. And lo, the idea was formed.

Unfortunately the Babylon 5 Tube Tour never actually happened – it’s a bit difficult to do a tube tour that takes in just two stations (Morden and Arsenal). That’s not a tour. That’s just a single journey. But it gave the idea for something with just a bit more potential. A Star Trek themed tube tour. It launched on Planet Bods on 30 September 2001.

And there it stayed, with a few new graphics added every now and then, until the summer of 2005 when it was linked to by the Going Underground Blog. People visited the tour webpage, and all were happy.

All but one person. Annie Mole. The person who runs the Going Underground blog. Who said…

Not exactly wild about the Star Trek tour. Looks like it was put together quickly unlike the hours that must have been spent on another sci-fi classic with a tube take. It’s the Dr Who Gallifrey Underground Railway Map.

Going Underground

And there was wailing and gnashing of teeth until one day at the end of August 2005 when the writer, one Andrew Bowden, did set off with his digital camera, to record visually the tube tour, and to do extra research for it. And on 1 December 2005, the newly updated, expanded and completely revised Star Trek Tube Tour launched. With three new stations added. And lots of new pictures. And a swanky new design. And all were happy once more.

Well. Maybe…
