Feisty Upgrade

Published on 23 June 2007 in , , ,

As anyone who has read these pages before, upgrading Linux since the arrival of my new PC last year, hasn’t always been smooth. Indeed for recent versions of Ubuntu, a simple kernel update has had a tenancy to cause nothing but woe and anguish – usually around the areas of sound (there generally wasn’t any) and my Wacom tablet (which usually went berserk).

So I was looking forward today to finally writing about my update to Ubuntu 7.04 (Fiesty Fawn). The reason I was looking forward to it was because, for once, it all went wonderfully smoothly and upon rebooting, sound was heard straight away, and the Wacom tablet didn’t bat an eyelid.

Yay! Absolutely fantastic. An update just as it should have been. Wahoo! Brilliant! Hot footed to Movable Type was I, ready and waiting to type and gush and praise.

Only to find Apache had been removed by the upgrade programme and PHP had gone absent without leave…

Oh well. At least I could play music whilst sorting out the mess…
