Customer looks at the bananas then at the handy diagram on the screen which shows where to put your shopping, confused.

Customer stares blankly at the screen. A little red light comes on above the till.

“Please place your item in the bagging area”

Customer stares a bit more before putting the bananas in the bagging area. Scans a second item.

I looked after four of these machines for the best part of a year.
    I hate them.

My first instinct when they were introduced, was to keep using the standard tills. However it quickly dawned on me that the Tesco at work does have some exceptionally hopeless staff, and it was usually far quicker to use the self-service ones for small amounts of stuff. Normally I can be paid up within 90 seconds.

Oh yes, if you have a brain and some ears/eyes, they’re great. 5pm in the evening people who used them every day flew through. But the rest of the time… *shakes head*

I think you should earn an extra clubcard point every time you do Tesco’s work for them, and the quicker you complete your transaction, the more points you should receive.

i think they should put a little trap door under the scanning table.. once the item is scanned the product drops neatly into a bag below.. mmm.. better idea! put a trap door in the floor to get rid of the numpty who can’t work the self service till 🙂
