No Seat

That title up there is what my batch of train tickets that arrived from The Trainline today, proudly proclaims. Three separate trains, on two different days during Christmas, on three different train companies. And no seat.
Given it’s over a month before we’re travelling, and we’ve never had difficulty booking before, this came as a bit of a surprise and a bit of a shock.
You can kinda understand it on the way back when we’re going via Sheffield because the West Coast Mainline isn’t going to London. I have a feeling it might be a tad busy.
But on the way up a few days before Christmas? The thought of joining the rugby scrum trying to find the elusive spare seat on a Virgin Train to Manchester doesn’t exactly fill me with joy… It would – to be frank – be nice if The Trainline had actually told me this when I booked…
The hope is that reservations simply haven’t opened yet – and duly have I sent emails to both East Midlands Trains and Virgin Trains to find out. But I have a feeling it’s going to be a bit of a long shot…

It seems to be a lottery as to whether you get seats booked or not! I travelled to London along the West Coast mainline in Feb, and although I booked the tickets 2 months in advance, I did not get allocated seats in either direction. I agree – it would be nice if trainline informed you of this.
