Looking for a dungeon? In Australia?

As I mentioned recently, I’m planning a test walking/camping session in the Lake District this May. No firm plans yet but I do want it to feature Bow Fell and Crinkle Crags and that means heading out in the direction of the Old Dungeon Ghyll. In an email, Catherine’s dad Mike offered a few walking ideas so off I rushed off to type Dungeon Ghyll into Bing Maps which offers the option of viewing Ordnance Survey maps.

Unfortunately typing in “Dungeon Ghyll” didn’t quite give the response I was hoping for.

Bing Map's search results for Dungeon Ghyll

Sorry Bing, but I’m after a famous pub in Cumbria where grizzled mountain walkers all congregate telling tales of Bow Fell and Crinkle Crags, and not a dungeon in the Australian town of Ghyll…

Typing in “Old Dungeon Ghyll” didn’t fare much better. I got the option of an “old dungeon” instead.

The town Bing pointed you at was Rhyll, not Ghyll. Why it assumed you had misspelled Rhyll is in itself quite a mystery.
