Unbelievably I haven’t mentioned Doctor Who yet. This coming from a man whose favourite programme when growing up featured a blue police box and a sonic screwdriver.
But what can really be said about this series? What other than "wow!", "fantastic" and "arrrghhhh!!!!"?
As I’ve bored Catherine to death saying already, I was a bit sceptical about this series. Even a month before it started, I wasn’t quite sure whether to believe all those raving reviews I kept seeing, but without a doubt, the series started strong and just kept getting better and better and better – right up to the quite frankly outstanding episode from last night, Bad Wolf.
It could so easily have happened again – someone could have screwed it all up, and ruined Doctor Who again for another generation. Thankfully that didn’t happen, and the programme was put in the careful hands of a group of people who had two great qualities – they loved Doctor Who, and they knew how to create fantastic television.
The show has been put back on a firm footing and thank goodness it has. Next week is the last episode of this series. My Saturday nights just won’t be the same.
(This blog post should have ended with a picture of my late cat Berry, taken some eighteen or so years ago, looking at a Doctor Who book. Unfortunately I can’t for the life of me remember where the photo album is, but rest assured, it’s a cute picture.)
